Ford to make new three-row EV SUV in 2025, 560-km range expected

Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley has announced that the Blue Oval brand has plans to produce a seven-seater electric SUV.

Farley stated that the existing two-row is already saturated with many offerings from different brands and that a 3-row EV SUV would be a great idea to help differentiate Ford’s Model e EV business unit.

While other details about the upcoming model are still unknown, reports have stated that the three-row EV SUV will be coming in 2025 and will allegedly come with 350 miles (563 kilometers) worth of range on a sing charge at an average speed of about 75 mph (120 km/h)

Like other EVs available on the market, the new model will likely come with fast charging capabilities which, according to reports, could add up to about 150 miles (241 km) worth of range in less than ten minutes.

Ford has also stated that the upcoming three-row EV SUV will come at an affordable price point but did not share any specific numbers or ranges.

The electrified SUV may also carry a 2+2+3 seating configuration, as seen in its other vehicles, such as the Ford Everest and the Ford Expedition.

The dimensions of the upcoming EV are still unknown, but it should be roughly the same size as a Ford Expedition or be a slightly bigger version of the Ford Explorer.

Not alone

The new EV will face competition like the Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS. It will also likely compete against the Kia EV9 and the Volvo EX90.

Something to note is that the three-row SUV market in the US is relatively small compared to other countries. That could mean that the upcoming EV is intended as a global product for Ford to recoup its investment and hopefully earn a profit from this next EV venture.

Ford has so far not been earning, and is in fact losing money, on each Mach e EV it sells. High production costs coupled with competition that has brought down selling prices of EVs have hurt the company.

Ford sees the three-row EV segment as an opportunity to earn more customers as it foresees a saturation of 45 models in the highly contested two-row SUV EV market by 2025.

Will Ford become a dominant global force in the three-row EV SUV market? Let us know in the comment section.
